If you have smart devices in your Cape Coral home, you might wonder what you’d do with them if you moved. Perhaps you’d like to bring your doorbell to the next place, or you’re happy to leave everything as it is. Either way, you don’t need to have it all sorted out before you talk to us.

We can walk through the house with you and discuss what you’d like to keep. Once we know that, we’ll help make sure buyers understand what’s included. You’ll also have time to find the instructions for disconnecting your accounts from anything you’re leaving behind.

It’s a conversation we can have before your home goes on the market, while there’s still plenty of time to work through the details.

Let’s Start With What You’d Like to Take

If you’ve recently bought a smart thermostat and want it in your next home, let us know before photography and showings. We can talk about removing or replacing it before buyers visit and make sure the written agreement reflects what you intend to leave.

A buyer may see the thermostat on the wall and assume it comes with the house. Getting that settled early helps avoid a misunderstanding later, when you’ve already started packing.

As we go through the house, the apps on your phone can help us remember what’s installed. You probably won’t forget the doorbell you use every day, but the leak sensor under the sink may not come to mind until you see it in the app.

That also gives us a chance to look at how everything connects. If the lights depend on a hub beside your router, we’ll want to account for that hub when discussing what’s included. The same goes for remotes and other accessories that could easily get packed with your belongings.

You don’t need an elaborate inventory. A few notes about the equipment, along with photos of the model labels, will help when you’re looking for instructions later.

The Device and Your Account Need Separate Attention

Once you’ve decided to leave a device, the next question is how to prepare it for someone else to use. Your doorbell, for example, may stay beside the front door while its recordings and notifications remain connected to your phone.

The manufacturer’s ownership-transfer instructions are the best place to start. Deleting the app may leave steps unfinished, and a factory reset may only be part of the process. Looking this up before moving day gives you time to ask the provider for help if something isn’t clear.

If you pay for recording storage or another service, ask what happens to that subscription when you move. The provider can explain whether you need to cancel it or arrange a transfer, and what the buyer will need to do themselves. Keeping that answer with your device notes saves you from having to track it down again.

Financed or leased equipment deserves an earlier conversation. If you have an agreement for solar panels or a battery system, bring it to us while we’re preparing to list. We’ll help you identify what needs to be addressed during the sale and who can answer questions about the terms.

We’ll Help You Plan the Handoff

You can have the instructions ready without disconnecting everything right away. You’ll still be using the house, and you may want the smart lock working while you’re making trips with the moving truck.

We can coordinate the timing with you so you know when to remove your access. Some devices need an internet connection to complete that process, so check the instructions before scheduling your internet cancellation. Allowing a little extra time also gives you a chance to reach support if you run into trouble.

Before resetting equipment, save any camera recordings you want to keep. Remember to address guest codes and access shared with family members as you follow the manufacturer’s directions. Your personal passwords should stay private, with the buyer setting up their own account through the provider’s process.

As you finish, put the manuals and setup information somewhere the buyer can easily find them. A short note about where the hub is plugged in or how to use a manual control can be helpful, too. You know the house well, so it’s easy to forget which details took some figuring out when you first installed everything.

We can also go back over the agreed inclusions with you before you finish packing. That helps ensure the garage remote and other accessories stay with the equipment they belong to.

Whether you’re planning a move soon or just thinking ahead, we’re happy to talk about your Cape Coral home. Bring us your questions about what to keep and what to leave, and we’ll work through them together.
